Medical Guide on Fasting for Muslim Patients
To create an easy to understand, well organized source of medical guidance on the impact of fasting on the health of patients with different medical conditions and the advice on how to reduce the harms of fasting on individual’s health. The Guide will be edited and published by Muslim Healthcare Network and made available free to public.
Scope:
The Guide will be focusing the general medical effects of fasting and would not cover religious rulings (jurisprudence) nor it will give individual fatwa for patients to fast or not as there are various factors play into such decision and each patient may clarify that with their physicians and religious scholars. The book will help guide the healthcare professionals in providing advice to their patients but also will be easy for lay individuals, both patients and healthy individuals to understand the contents of this Guide.
Process:
The books will be divided into different sections and chapters to cover topics about fasting and health and specific disease recommendations.
Each chapter will be coauthored by at least two specialist experts and maximum 4 authors in relevant medical specialty.
Timeline:
First Draft of the chapter by October 15, 2023.
Revised chapter by December 15
First PDF Version will be ready by February 15, 2024 (before next Ramadan)
